Preliminary Studies For Phase I Metropolitan Bicycle Master Plan

The objective of the project is to provide support for decision-making on issues of mobility, non-motorized transportation and all those affecting the development of specific projects for the city of Medellin and the Metropolitan Area, and that are consistent with their own policies of urban mobility in bicycle, aiming to establish a differential input to the Plan Director Metropolitan bicycle led by the Metropolitan Area of the Aburrá Valley.

To counteract the harmful effects of the growth of trucking increasingly more cities promote the use of sustainable means of transportation, such as mass transit or bicycle. These solutions have been taking force because of its importance in reducing traffic congestion and minimize road accidents. The municipality of Medellín and the AMVA, being pioneers in this area, aim to strengthen policies in favour of non-motorized traffic, allowing an increase of the use of the bicycle as well as the improvement of road safety ratings. Also proposes the integration of the network of bicycle paths with public transportation in order to improve the accessibility of increasingly larger groups of society.

  • For this intends to expand the system of public bicycles (EnCicla) and plan linking the network of bicycles with the Metro system, the Metroplus BRT system, the regional project SITVA Finally learned experiences will be translated in a pilot project to present during the World Urban Forum (WUF 7).
