Mekong Region Water And Sanitation (Mek-Watsan) Initiative In Vilabouly Town In Lao Pdr

This project covers urban and peri-urban areas of Vilabouly Town in the Province of Savannakhet. Savannakhet Province which is the most populated province in Lao PDR with a total population of 857,478. The Province comprises of 15 districts of which four including Vilabuly Town are officially classified as poor districts. According to the information provided by the Water Supply State-owned Enterprise of Savannakhet Province, the province's urban population is estimated at around 158,748 persons (24,575 households). Only four districts in Savannakhet have access to piped water and the number of households connected to piped water distribution network is estimated at ten percent, which is significantly lower compared to other provinces.
