Afghanistan Safety Nets And Pensions Support Project (Snpsp)

There is a strong and so far unmet demand for support for vulnerable people at the village level in many parts of Afghanistan to ensure adequate levels of nutrition. The Safety Nets and Pension Support Project will provide opportunities for both men and women to benefit from the established local governance and development bodies now in place at the village level.

The establishment of Community Development Councils (CDC) through the National Solidarity Programme (NSP) of the Government of Afghanistan covers all 34 provinces, reaching two thirds of the population of Afghanistan. The programme empowers rural communities to be responsible for their governance, planning and providing community level assistance which builds the trust between people and government. The CDCs established under the NSP are now the platform for village level development activities including basic services, infrastructure, literacy, and family health.

The overall purpose of the program is to empower and insitutioalize Community Development Councils so that they can assist eligible poor families with young children to ensure adequate levels of nutrition, and to promote human capital development.

The specific purpose of this intervention is to assist program implementation throughout each phase of the program cycle by supporting project activities in Yakawlang District of Bamyan
