Participatory Youth Mapping And Urban Planning Initiative

The aim of the project is to produce data that will serve as tools for community planning processes, both internally and through partnerships with government, NGOs, and/or the private sector. The community mapping exercise and data generated through research will serve as a platform to build community members' voice and confidence, to change negative perceptions of their community, and to advocate for their rights. The mapping data and outputs produced will be complemented by the production of a report on the impact of forced evictions and demolition in Njemanze and Abbonema Wharf.

In the next phase of the Human City Project, CMAP will facilitate partnerships between communities and urban development professionals in order to use the results of the mapping project to develop neighborhood cluster plans, and to identify actionable demonstration projects.

The project is of high priority for the target groups because it will enable them to address the issue of forced eviction with the city authorities and led to substantial improvement of their livelihood in the near future. This will be achieved through participation, collaboration and empowerment of the residents.
