Enhancing Capacity Of Selected Local Governments In Africa And Latin America To Increase Local Revenues Supporting Urban Development Plans

Achievement of sustainable development requires significant investment in infrastructure and services and the gap in financing is very large. At the same time, national and local governments have primary responsibility for achieving their development goals. Since financing and infrastructure needs are greatest in areas where capacity is lowest; this project has the following overarching goal: Enhanced capacity of local governments to increase local revenues and access different financing mechanisms to support implementation of urban development plans. In order to reach that goal, the project incorporates two expected achievements. Participating cities will be selected on the basis of demand; commitment to implementation and availability of funds; and existing relationship with UN-Habitat.
