Purposes of the project

1. To facilitate cooperation among city representatives and experts by instituting a city representative and expert network in five Southern and five European cities for stakeholder dialogue, data collection and the development of City Priority Papers on migration planning.

2.     To increase migration-related knowledge by elaborating city migration profiles identifying the migration situation, and cities' priorities, capacities and practices for migrants' access to rights and services;

3.     To enhance communication within the network and towards the public at large by developing IT-based information-gathering and exchange tools (including an interactive website; expert network; data and document repository); and

4.   To improve migration planning through the elaboration of city priority papers on migration planning for participating cities, as well as a toolkit for local-level migration planning.

  • The target groups will benefit from this network through streamlining respective priorities and mutual learning on Best Practices concerning migration planning among the cities in the network.

  • Development of, and agreement upon, the functioning modalities and necessary tools to institutionalise the network ensure the sustainability of the network beyond the current action.
  • Target group will be better able to assess, through their CSGs and Peer-to-Peer Dialogue Groups, the issues relevant to their city and how to address them to the benefit of both final beneficiaries

The proposed partners are Partners United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG)

UN-Habitat is to provide Substantive input on thematic issues, including ensuring representation of vulnerable groups as well as issues related to urban planning.
