Shelter Recovery And Reconstruction Coordination Support For Earthquake Affected Population In Nepal

IOM and UN-Habitat have established a partnership to undertake the responsibility of co-chairing the RRWG and - from January 2015 onwards - the HRRP. The present project is to establish a sound coordination mechanism. This project will support the transition phase for the first 6 months, as the cluster and the RRWG are rolled into the HRRP in 2016.

The project will provide a platform for coordination, strategic planning, and technical guidance for agencies involved in longer term housing recovery and reconstruction, and to engage with the GoN and other key stakeholders to inform the wider housing reconstruction programme.

Through the HRRP, UN-Habitat and IOM aim to:

  1. Support government authorities (NAR, MOFALD, MOUD/DUDBC) in coordination, facilitating cooperation with the national and international organisations, the private sector, overseas labour migrants (remittances), and public associations engaged in housing recovery;
  2. Ensure consistent technical information is disseminated from the national level to district- and VDC-level actors;
  3. Support Information management to track housing recovery and reconstruction activities conducted by different agencies at national, district and VDC levels;
  4. Ensure timely and harmonized reporting from the field to the national level, including to donors and government partners.
