Strengthening Planning For Resettlement Of And Integration Of Refugee And Host Communities In Kalobeyei, Turkana County, Kenya

Within the KISEDP, a multi-agency collaboration to develop the local economy and service delivery at Kalobeyei, the preparation of a spatial development framework that seeks to ensure the integration of refugees and host communities is an important pre-requisite for the resettlement that can only be achieved with the support of UN-Habitat's expertise.

The project is addressing, on one hand the internal capacity of properly planning and managing the new Kalobeyei site and, on the other hand bringing technical expertise of UN-Habitat in linking the resources and requirements for planning, design, urban economy, legal and regulatory aspects and basic urban services into the new site.

The target populations that will benefit from the project is approximately 60,000 refugees, and the highly marginalized groups from the host communities, especially the most vulnerable households, women, children and persons with disabilities. The indirect beneficiaries are the host communities at the new site identified by the County Government of Turkana, the National Government of Kenya and Local NGOs.
