Supporting The Preparation Of The Rwanda Smart City Master Plan

The main purpose of this project is to develop a Smart City Master Plan for Rwanda to serve as a guide for the implementation of a Smart Cities Framework to help Rwandan cities adopt a smart-city approach that makes use of opportunities from sustainable urban planning and digitalization, clean energy and technologies, innovative transport technologies, promoting environmental choices, boosting economic growth and enabling cities to improve service delivery, while contributing to sustainable urbanization model which promotes more compact, better integrated and connected cities which are socially inclusive and resilient to climate change, taking into consideration local innovation and creativity of citizens. This will also be an opportunity for UN-Habitat to define smart cities in an African context, and show how technology can be used to promote a people-centered, inclusive approach to smart sustainable cities, building on UN-Habitat's principles of more compact, connected and resilient cities. The Masterplan work will take as its starting point the New Urban Agenda smart-city approach of making use of opportunities from digitalization, clean energy and technologies to boost economic growth, promoting environmentally-friendly choices and enabling cities to improve their service delivery.
