Sustainable And Inclusive Urban Prosperity In The State Of Alagoas – An Integrated Initiative

The goal of the project is to enhance the capacity of the State of Alagoas to actively engage in sustainable and inclusive urban policies and programming leading to urban prosperity, through developing a better understanding of the urban reality, and the formulation of public policies, plans, and actions that will result in the improvement of quality of life in the cities of the State. The overall objective is the improvement of urban sustainability and living conditions of municipalities of Alagoas – mainly the capital Maceió.

The program activities will benefit the overall urban population of Alagoas, but will focus mainly on public authorities and officials who are accountable to design and implement policies and programmes that will meet the needs of urban dwellers. Key stakeholders from the community, private and academic sectors that are partners of the government will also benefit from the project.  Ultimately, because of the focus on the ‘grotas', slum dwellers of Maceió will also directly benefit from this project through demonstration projects in informal areas. 

Although some activities are planned to take place in different administrative regions of Alagoas, the project will have a special focus on the “grotas” of the capital Maceió and its 250,000 inhabitants.  Special attention shall also be given to strategies and actions targeting women and youth.
