Rapid Technical Assesement For Damaged Residential Building In Shelter Priority Neighborhood In Aleppo

The Rapid Technical Assessment for Damaged Residential Buildings (rapid damage assessment) is intended to provide the Aleppo Governorate, Aleppo Municipality and Shelter Sector Members with an initial damage assessment of residential buildings based on a rapid, street level, visual inspection of damaged buildings. This assessment is required to provide a common understanding of damage to residential buildings to validate preliminary lists of eligible owners for shelter rehabilitation and identify buildings were access should be differed or impeded. The findings of the rapid damage assessment must be complemented by a detailed damaged assessment of the residential building and individual units that will be targeted for shelter rehabilitation. Detailed damage assessment for residential buildings and units that will be targeted for shelter rehabilitation – conducted by the implementing agency / organization.  The neighbourhoods have jointly been identified by the Shelter Sector and the Municipality of Aleppo.  The assessment will be carried out by the Engineering Syndecate, the only legally authorized entity able to carry out this work.  UN-Habitat has conducted similar, smaller scale, shelter damage assessments in places such as Al Qaryatain and the methodology has been recognized by the Shelter sector as an appropriate tool for conducting the assessment in Aleppo.
