The Clean Water for Integrated Village
Development project is an important support for Egypt to work towards achieving
the Sustainable Development Goals in addition to the national Sustainable
Development Strategy: Egypt Vision 2030.
On the global level, the project aligns with SDGs
number 1, 6, and 11 with envisioned effects on goal 3. Goal 1 relates to the economic
empowerment components which are envisioned to support ending poverty through
improving equal access to economic opportunities and LED. Goal 6 aims at
ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation
for all; in this regard, the project aims at providing potable water, by 2020,
to 1.2 million inhabitants from the sustainable RBF technology provision
practices. Goal 11 aims at making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe,
resilient and sustainable; in this regard, the project aims at achieving
communities that have access to basic infrastructure which are resilient to
river levels decrease, safe and sustainable by 2020. Lastly, Goal 3 aims at ensuring
that everyone is leading healthy lives and promotes well-being; in this regard
the project aims at reducing the spreading of water-borne diseases thorough the
provision of clean water at the household level.
The project, also, aligns with the national
visions laid out in the constitution and the Sustainable Development Strategy: Egypt
Vision 2030. The Egyptian Constitution of 2014 ensures equal right to healthy
and sufficient food and clean water. “Egypt vision 2030” brings additional
focus to the analysis of challenges and responding actions to overcome and face
water management and resource issues; including applying innovative research
results to support achieving goals of sustainable development (of which
responding to water needs is prioritized).
Additionally, in line with the current
government efforts to increase the efficiency of the National Budget, and given
the fact the infrastructure provision is usually the largest budget item, this
project will support achieving national development targets at lower costs. The
Clean Water for Integrated Village Development project align with the local
visions as well in terms of supporting the local development plans.
