Challenge-Based Innovation In Urban Planning, Energy & Transport In Emerging Economies

PurposeThis feasibility study relates a proposed larger challenge-based innovation program which is expected to be implemented in 2018-2021 in collaboration with The Swedish Energy Agency and Swedish Incubators and Science Parks. The pre-feasibility study will be an initial phase of a prospective larger program.Objectives of the feasibility studyl) Build relationships with stakeholders in selected counties and markets so that the larger challenge based-innovation program can be implemented in the areas of “Sustainable mobility as a service","Sustainable local energy systems" and "Urban planning and design to ensure energy efficient cities".2) Explore how existing urban areas and urban extensions can be done is such a way as to reduce energy consumption and integrate solar energy and smart grids.3) Carry out market analysis regarding fossil free transportation, renewable energy, and urban planning and energy in the selected counties.4) Lay the foundation for a long-term strategic collaboration UN-Habitat, SEA and SISP to help understanding how to proceed to involve stakeholders in at least three cities in the selected countries.5) Assess the feasibility of implementing demand-driven concrete solutions that can create better cities while addressing urban planning, urban energy, and mobility challenges in an integrated way. Promote the exchange of good practices and the collaboration between cities in the energy, mobility, urban planning and applied technology sectors. Understand the business community in the areas of energy, mobility, urban planning and urban applied technologies.6) Inform a future process of mobilizing $100 million in investment over five years to implement urban solutions, by impacting 1 million people and avoiding die emission of 17 Million Tm of C02 in line with what is stated in the background of this document.
