Somalia Strengthening Institutions For Public Works Project (Ssipwp), Project Rajo

  • The Youth and Livelihoods Unit is one of the longest standing youth programmes within the United Nations system. Its mandate includes the below UN Governing Council Resolutions concerning youth that aim at enhancing and supporting youth led initiatives that contribute to their social economic development:
  • 19/13 Enhancing the Engagement of Youth in the Work of the UN Human Settlements Programme
  • 20/1 Youth and Human Settlements
  • 21/6 Urban Youth Development
  • 22/4 Strengthening the Development of Urban Young People
  • 23/7 Urban Youth Development: The Next Step

UN-Habitat embraces youth as a positive force for transformative change.  The Youth Livelihood Unit works in close collaboration with Habitat partners and local governments to conduct research and develop evidence-based solutions to identified problems rooted in youth-led, pro-youth development principles. It also works closely with colleagues in the Gender Equality and Human Rights Unit to ensure that youth programming is gender-responsive, empowers young women, and adheres to a human rights based approach. The approach aims addressing emerging youth and livelihood issues globally. The competitive edge lies in UN-Habitat tested and proven models of youth and livelihood programming, an example of which is our One Stop Youth Centre Model (OSYC).
