The Project is a child of the “People Oriented Urban Public Space Programme in China”,

The Project is part of the continuous support and partnership between UN-Habitat and the City of Chengdu, specifically the Chengdu Planning and Management Bureau and Planning Institute.

Furthermore, there is an on-going Agreement between UPDB and the City of Chengdu focusing on the urban renewal in Shaocheng district and the Green Belt Project. This project is still on-going, expected to be concluded by December 2019. Building on the success of these previous activities, the City of Chengdu has requested UN-Habitat to participate in the Beautiful Livable Park City Project.

Given the specific nature of the Project, which is directly addressing the regional, metropolitan and local scale in Chengdu, as well as considering its normative nature and innovative concept (in the current Chinese context), this could see the project being up-scaled in the future on a national scale.
