Establishment And Functioning Of Shelter Hubs In The Three Severely Flood Affected Districts Of Kerala, India

The Project will address the critically damaged shelter sector through provision of knowledge, disaster resilient technologies and building capacities of the masons and artisans for enabling them to facilitate safe construction practices. It will establish 10 shelter hubs in three critically flood affected districts including Pathanamthitta, Idukki and Wayanad which will act as a information and knowledge hub for one-stop-shop on housing recovery and reconstructions adopting flood and land-slide resistant construction practices. Moreover, the project will also develop various guidelines, manuals, knowledge products and various other Information Education and Communication (IEC) materials to provide knowledge, decision making for the home owners reconstruction and recovery process. It would also provide training to the engineers and architects of the government established Shelter Hubs and will initiate a seamless transition of the CERF funded Hubs to the government owned and established shelter hubs across all flood affected districts of the state. Thus the main objectives of the interventions would focus on knowledge building, technology dissemination, sharing of best practices of similar disaster prone contexts on shelter recovery including creating an environment of safe and resilient shelter construction practices through creation of master trainers with the provision of training and capacity development interventions.
