Technical Support For The National And Local Governments In Urban Planning And Design: Developing Guidelines For Net Zero Carbon Villages In China & Rehabilitation Of Heavily Polluted Urban Rivers

The purpose of this publication is to bring to light water pollution control challenges that China cities face as a result of rapid urbanization process, and at the same time review the effectiveness of practical responses/solutions that are and could help these cities avert this imminent crisis. Specifically, we will produce a case-based publication that will articulate the impacts of urban water environment infrastructure to water pollution control in selected cities in China, and analyse the effectiveness of solutions that have up to now been adopted as well as from other regions in similar circumstances than can be adopted. The process of this publication will seek to help the cities overcome the challenges of river's blackness and stench, while preventing it in cities that could potentially experience deteriorating water quality in the future. This publication will seek to:
  1. analyse China's current situation of urbanization and water environment infrastructure construction;
  2. clarify four kinds of river's black-foul occurrence in China in the process of urbanization;
  3. provide technical solutions to river's black-foul occurrence corresponding to these four scenarios;
  4. present several successful cases to demonstrate China's practices to eliminate river's black-foul occurrence and restore river water quality in a systematic engineering approach;
  5. provide a market outlook of China's black-odorous water bodies treatment in the future.
